APSL – Cancer Relief Programme (APSL-CRP) Update 2021

person

We are very pleased to inform that the “APSL – Cancer Relief Programme (APSL-CRP)” has reached it’s 3rd anniversary, having made a significant impact by way of tremendous progress. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who supported the scheme in numerous ways and all the donors for helping the cause to make an impact on our fellow citizens back home in Sri Lanka. – Thank You!

APSL-CRP programme was launched in 2017 at the 13th APSL Dinner Dance in London with a view to helping cancer patients in Sri Lanka. Over the past three years, we have established collaborations with key hospitals in five provinces in Sri Lanka and provided them and patients with essential and critical medical supplies and financial support.

The first collaboration was made in December 2017 with Badulla General Hospital, providing medical supplies and in 2018 renovating the sanitary facilities at the Cancer Ward there with the help of M&S Sourcing Office in Sri Lanka.

The second collaboration was formed in 2019 with the Kurunegala General Hospital in partnership with the Wayamba Cancer Society to provide financial help and funding for awareness programmes within the region. Another collaboration was formed within the same year with Batticaloa General Hospital in partnership with Our Society UK and Cancer Society Sri Lanka, Batticaloa Branch.

In 2020, two more collaborations were formed with Karapitiya General Hospital, Galle and Anuradhapura General Hospital in partnership with the Sri Lanka Cancer Society - Anuradhapura branch. The agreement is to provide contribution towards urgent medication requirements and to provide financial help for deserving patients.

Our current commitment is to provide

  1. Financial support for 34 cancer patients on a monthly basis at Kurunegala, Batticaloa and Anuradhapura (2,500 LRK per patient).
  2. Contribution towards Medical supplies for 4 patients on a monthly basis at Anuradhapura Hospital (15,000 LKR per patient)
  3. To provide urgent medication request and financial help for Badulla and Karapitiya Hospitals. (Will consider based on individual request and the maximum grant amount per patient is 50,000 LKR)

We are also currently having advanced discussions to expand the programme by forming collaborations with Hambantota, Monaragala, Colombo, Jaffna and Rathnapura General Hospitals. This will cover all nine provinces across the country by widening the reach through the APSL Cancer Relief Programme.

It is a great achievement by APSL-CRP to form centres in the provinces in a very short time span helping cancer patients in Sri Lanka to receive treatment and financial aid they require at their local hospitals. These patients and their families need all the support they can get during the difficult times they face.

You can join APSL to help us continue with the current and future programmes of APSL - Cancer Relief Programme by making a donation to the APSL Cancer Relief Fund via Virgin money giving.

If you require more information or would like to get involved in the programme, please feel free to contact me through leshanu@apsl.org.uk or 0796 9330078

Thank you and best wishes for a New Year full of happiness, prosperity and good health.
