Muttiah Muralitharan - A True Cricket Legend

Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will retire from Test cricket after the first Test of the home series against India in Galle started on 18 July. Muralitharan, an off-spin bowler with a unique action, has a world record 792 wickets from 132 Test appearances. He is expected to continue to play in some limited-overs internationals, including next year's World Cup.

Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in both Test cricket and in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He took the wicket of Gautam Gambhir on 5 February 2009 in Colombo, to surpass Wasim Akram's ODI record of 502 wickets. Muralitharan became the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket when he overtook the previous record-holder Shane Warne on 3 December 2007 in the longer version of the game. Muralitharan had previously held the record when he surpassed Courtney Walsh's 519 wickets in 2004.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Galle Stadium and congratulated spin wizard Muttaiah Muralidaran who made a world record 800 Test wickets. President presented a Special Memento to Murali at the Stadium.
