Kumar Sangakkara celebrated his final Test tour of England by achieving what some of the modern greats failed to do – score a Test hundred at Lord’s.

England were powerless to stop Sri Lanka’s Kandy master from fulfilling his pre-match goal; this was his 36th hundred in Test cricket, one for every one of his years, and arguably his sweetest. Three-quarters of an hour into a gloomy afternoon session, the dream became reality as Sangakkara latched on to a wide half-volley from Joe Root and laced a cover drive for his 10th four.

The crowning moment came during another significant hundred – the 126 the Mahela & Sanga shared for the third wicket was their 17th together. Only Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar combined for more in Test history.
