Sri Lanka v Middlesex, Uxbridge London - Sri Lanka begin the tour with victory

Pictures by Nimal Navaratne

Sri Lanka warmed up for their npower Test series against England by beating Middlesex by four wickets with five overs to spare in the opening match of their tour at Uxbridge. Chanaka Welegedara enhanced his chances of a call-up in Cardiff next week by taking three wickets - including England captain Andrew Strauss - as Middlesex were all out for 161.

Sri Lanka’s new captain Tillakaratne Dilshan, who made a century in the first innings, opted to give some of his fellow batsmen time in the middle rather than open the innings himself as they chased a target of 213 in 49 overs
