The annual Athula Dhassan Dhamma School prize giving ceremony took place on the 7th January this year recognising, celebrating and rewarding the achievements of our Dhamma School students.  This special event was organised by the Dhamma School Development committee under the patronage of Ven Wanduramba Kassapa, Chief Sanganayake of Amarapura Sri Saddhamma Wansa Niyaka of Great Britain, the Head of the Athula Dassana International Buddhist Vihara and the Dhamma School.

We were extremely pleased that Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Mrs Amari Mandika Wijewardane attended the celebration as the chief guest.

In his welcome speech, Ven Kassapa Thero said; “The awards highlight the excellent work that all staff and students put into their work, and it is great to see this is rewarded” Ven Kassapa Thero also commended our Dhamma School Children for their participation at various events organised by our Vihara including the Independence Day celebration and New Year Festival. He thanked the Dhamma school development committee chairman Mr Rohan Wickramasekera and his committee members for organising this wonderful event.

Addressing the gathered Dhamma School Children, their parents and other special invitees, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Mrs Wijewardane commended the excellent work done by the Atula Dhassana Vihara Dhamma School in teaching our children the Buddhist way of living and highlighted her up brining; a Buddhist way of living and the qualities instilled into her life which stood her in good stead. Ambassador also emphasised on the importance of learning one’s mother language and acquiring a solid awareness of one’s culture and origins.
