Sri Lanka Schools Target Shooting Competition 2016

Sri Lanka Ex-service Persons Association in collaboration with Disability Shooting Great Britain successfully held  its 2nd Sri Lanka Schools Target Shooting Competition.  This annual event was held on Sunday 25th September at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Guttmann Rd, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire HP21 9PP, the 'Birth Place of Paralympics Games", where the Great Britain Paralympic Shooting Team is based. The event was a great success with 18 teams from 8 schools participating the event. The teams compete for following;

SLESPA-UK Challenge Trophy, and the Gold Medals for RIFLE Target Shooting Competition was received by Team1 Nalanda. 1st runners up was the Team2 Nalanda and 2nd runners up was Team Maris Stella who won Silver and Bronze medals. The trophy and medals were awarded by Col. Pasan Kularatne (Rtd).

SLESPA-UK Challenge Trophy, and the Gold Medals for PISTOL Target Shooting Competition was received by Team Maris Stella. 1st runners up was the Team1 St. Joseph and 2nd runners up was Team3 St. Joseph who won Silver and Bronze medals. The trophy and medals were awarded by Lt.Cdr. Kapila De Alwis (rtd).

Best Shooter Trophy and the Gold Medal for RIFLE Target Shooting Competition was received by Chaminda Prasad of Team Lumbini. 1st runner up was Janaka Gamage of Team1 Nalanda and 2nd runner up was Praveen Karunasena of Team Maris Stella who won Silver and Bronze medals. The trophy and medals were awarded by Capt (Dr) Sena Nanayakkara (rtd)

Best Shooter Trophy and the Gold Medal for PISTOL Target Shooting Competition was received by Tharindu Amarasekara of Team Maris Stella. 1st runner up was Praveen Karunasena of Team Maris Stella and 2nd runner up was Dinesh Perea of Team3 St. Joseph who won Silver and Bronze medals. The trophy and medals were awarded by Flt Lt (Dr) Deepthi Ratnayake(rtd).

Trophies and medals were donated by Brian Ratnayake.

The event was judged by the Performance Director and Head Coach of Disability Shooting Great Britain,  Col. Pasan Kularatne (Rtd.), and Facilities Manager and Coach  in the Disability Shooting Great Britain,  Lt.Cdr. Kapila De Alwis (rtd) the Facilities Manager and Coach  in the Disability Shooting Great Britain.  The President - Capt (Dr) Sena Nanayakkara (rtd), Secretary -  Capt Mahen Abayasekera (rtd), Treasurer -  Flt Lt(Dr) Deepthi Ratnayake(rtd) and Event Co-ordinator -  Aloysius Gnanapragasm was instrumental in organizing the event. Maj Selva Sathananthan (rtd), Capt Dinesh Sampath (rtd),  Lt. Sarath Gooneratne (rtd), Capt. Ruwan Samaranayake (rtd), Capt. Sanjay Silva (rtd), Capt. Nalin and Waruni Hettiarachchi (rtd.), Major VB Karunarathne (rtd.) serverd as range officers.

The event was compered by the Hon. Secretary Capt Mahen Abayasekera (rtd). In his closing speech, the President Capt (Dr) Sena Nanayakkara (rtd) thanked the guests, players, Presidents and co-ordinating officials of the participating OBAs, staff of Stoke Mandeville stadium, Caterer Mr. Royston, Medial Partners Sesatha web and Newslanka, members and families, and all those who helped to organize the event successfully.
