The eighth Annual Ball of The Society of Sri Lankan Engineers & Scientists in the UK (SSLES) took place on Saturday 10th September 2016 at the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel.

The chief guests were the Deputy Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Mr Sugheeshwara Gunaratne and Mrs Gunaratne. After the drinks reception the President, Mr Vithanage Dhanaratne(Dhane), and his wife Mala, welcomed guests as they entered the ballroom, each lady receiving a red rose from the President.

Following the delicious three course, the vice patron, Mr Leslie Gunaratne introduced the President to formally welcome the guests. This was followed by a brief speech by the chief guest Mr Gunaratne. The band for the evening, Breeze with Denzil and Suresh, played a waltz for the President and his wife to open the dance floor which was soon filled with enthusiastic dancing couples.

Guests received prizes throughout the evening in the form of the Entry, Table and Raffle Draw. Special awards were presented to Dr and Dr (Mrs) Sunil and Sirima Abeysuriya for being the only non member guests who have attended all the Annual Balls organised by the SSLES. Mala and Melanie Dhanaratne were presented with Orchids by the Vice Patron for their role in this successful event. Draws were conducted by the President and the Vice President, Asiri Bamunu Arachichi. General Secretary, Gerald Alwis proposed the Vote of Thanks before the National Anthems after which well satisfied guests headed home in the early hours of the following morning.
