Letchworth Buddhist Temple Celebrated 2016 Sinhala and Tamil New Year

The Buddhist Cultural Center Letchworth (BCCL) celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 16th April 2016 at The Free Church Hall, Norton Way, Letchworth. The chief guest and the distinguished guest were Mr. Manoj Warnapala the cultural affairs secretary of the Sri Lankan High Commission, representing His Excellency the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in The United Kingdom and the Leader of the Letchworth District Council, Councilor Mrs. Lynda Needham.                           

Highlights of the event comprised with traditional Sri Lankan sports/games followed by Sri Lankan classical music and dancing performed by children and young adults of the Dhamma class, under the guidance of the respective parents.  Mr. Prasaj de Silva provided the music and sound system and the master of ceremonies was Mr.  Aravinda Hettiarachchi. Young excited children took part in New Year beauty queen and prince competition in traditional costumes. Rev. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero. and Rev.  Dodangoda Sumedha Thero.  of The Lester Buddhist Temple blessed the guests by anointing of herbal oil. Mr. Manoj Warnapala and Mrs. Lynda Needham delivered speeches. The president of BCCL Mr. Haris Kodagoda thanked the distinguished guest and all the guests who attended the event. He extended his appreciation to all the volunteers and donors who provided food and financial aid to organise the event.     

The event was well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK, the local residence and all had a pleasant social get together.  The venerable Monks and the BCCL management committee members wish to extend their appreciation for all those who attended the event and extending their support for making this event a great success.
