The Leicester Buddhist
Vihara held its annual Kathina ceremony on the 30th
October 2011. The ceremony was held at the Blaby village
hall on the outskirts of Leicester. The ceremony was a
great success, with a record turnout, of approximately
250 people. There were seven Venerable monks from
various Buddhist temple's across the UK; including Ven.
Pidiville Piyatissa Nayaka Thera of Kethumathi Buddhist
Vihara of Manchester, Ven. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa
Nayaka Thera of Jethavana Buddhist Vihara of Birmingham,
ven. Konwewe Ariyarathana of London Buddhist Vihara and
Ven. Amitha of Leicester Buddhist Vihara.
The main focus of the
Kathina was to get more children involved in the
ceremony; many children took part in the ceremonial
procession of Kathina. This allowed them the opportunity
to get involved and have first- hand experience in
conducting parts of the ceremony. The whole event went
very smoothly, thanks to many people who willingly
helped out in the organisation and preparation. This
year, the Kathina ceremony was sponsored by Mr & Mrs
Silva and family of Grantham, Mr & Mrs Yatigammana and
family of Wisbech with the great support of all the
devotees of the Leicester Buddhist Vihara.
