The annual Vesak celebrations of
the East London Buddhist Cultural Centre were held on Sunday
15th May at the temple premises. This year’s
Wesak celebration is highly significant to the Buddhists all
over the world as they celebrate 2600 since Lord Buddha
attaining the Supreme Enlightenment.
This special day’s programme
started with many devotees, young and old observing the
Eight Precepts or Sil and ended with a special Addhistana
Buddha Puja. During the afternoon session a dhamma sermon
was delivered by Ven Wiloye Wimalajothi Thero of the London
Buddhist Vihara.
This year’s alms giving
for the monks and lay devotees were organised and sponsored
by Mr Upali & Mrs Ramani Gunasekara and Dr Thilani &Mr Lal
Ranasinghe family and members of the ELBCC.
To make sure the day’s events
end on a high, the temple had organised a Dansala which
served a very tasty rice & curry dinner to almost 300
devotees who were gathered at the temple.
The whole day’s programme was
overseen by the Head Priest of the Temple Ven. Makure
Mangala Thero and resident monks, Ven. Madugalle Mahanama
Thero and Ven. Singlow. |
