The High Commission of Sri
Lanka in London celebrated Sinhala Tamil New Year on 15th
April 2011, at the High Commission, with a simple ceremony. The
staff as well as the Sri Lankan expatriates and British
nationals who had come to obtain consular services were also
invited to join.
The event commenced with
the singing of the national anthem. Acting High Commissioner

has been making a remarkable economic progress since the
defeat of terrorism under the strong leadership of H.E.
Mahinda Rajapaksa, the President, and the people are
celebrating the New Year with a great sense of unity. He
requested the staff members of the High Commission to serve
the public with renewed dedication. He also called upon the
Sri Lankan expatriates in the UK to make use of the Sinhala
Tamil New Year festive season to rekindle and strengthen the
bonds of amity and friendship which has always been a
hallmark of Sri Lanka’s pluralistic society, and help the
ongoing endeavours of reconciliation.
Those present were served
with Sri Lankan traditional sweetmeat and milk rice.
