Ukraine for a 4 day official visit

Sri Lankan
president Mahinda Rajapaksa and First
Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa along with the
Sri Lankan delegation arrived at Kiev's
Boryspil International Airport on 29th
evening on a 4-day official visit.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine,
Kostyantyn Gryshchenko and his wife
warmly welcomed the President and his
entourage at the airport. Three
Ukrainian girls presented traditional
bread and salt to the President while
two Ukrainian boys presented flowers to
the First Lady. |

the Ukrainian Presidential Secretariat
introduced Ukrainian officials to the
President while Sri Lankan Ambassador
accredited to Ukraine Udayanga
Weeratunga introduced Sri Lankan
officials. The Sri Lankan delegation
included External Affairs Minister Prof.
G.L. Peiris, Parliamentarian Sajin De
Vas Gunawardena, President's Secretary
Lalith Weeratunga, President's Chief of
Staff Gamini Senarath were also present |

Ukrainian
capital Kyiv.

Sri Lanka signed four
agreements with Ukraine enhancing
cooperation in tourism, maritime,
shipping and defence sectors. The
signing of these four agreements took
place before President Mahinda Rajapaksa
and his Ukrainian counterpart Victor
Yanukovich at the latter’s office.
The
agreement to promote tourism between the
two countries were signed by Sri Lankan
Ambassador in Russia Udayanga Weeratunga
and Ukrainian Cultural and Tourism
Minister Mikhail Kulinyak while the
agreement enhancing the defence sector
cooperation was signed by Presidential
Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and
Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhalio
Yezhel.
The other
agreements were signed by the high
ranking officials witnessed by the
Presidents of both countries. |

Shiranthi Rajapaksa participated in a
wreath laying ceremony at Ukraine's Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier in Kiev Park of
Eternal Glory. President Rajapaksa and
First Lady also visited the Holodomor
Memorial Park in Kyiv that was dedicated
to the millions of Ukrainians died due
to starvation during the period
1932-1933. |
