On Sunday, June 27th
a sumptuous feast of Sri Lankan
classical and POP music was served to a
well attended audience at the London’s
Camden Centre.
For almost 5 hours
the crowd was enthralled and entertained
by the most fabulous Sri Lankan musical
show witnessed by a London audience for
some time. Everyone had the opportunity
to witness over 50 of the best and most
popular songs sung over the years by TM
Jayaratna, Karunarathna Divulgane,
Keerthi Pasquel and Athula Adikari.
Supporting the four
main acts with their duets was London’s
very own Vishradh Thisaranie Malwatta
who completely won the hearts of the
audience with her sweet voice.
The music was
provided by a fabulous collection of 10
member orchestra combining some of the
best from Sri Lanka and the UK under the
direction of Sarath De Alwis and
supported by Mahinda Bandara, Kalani
Perera, Priyantha Dassanayake, Dananjaya
Somasiri, Niranjan De Alwis, Kenneth De
Silva from Sri Lanka and Manjula
Munasinghe, Chameera Dondeenu and
Chandana Fonseka from the UK.
This was UK’s newest
Sri Lankan event promoter Palinda
Samarasinghe’s second such production
and just like “Gee Tharu 2008” held at
the Indigo2 in June 2008, he wanted to
make sure “Gee Tharu 2010” will go down
the history books as one of the best Sri
Lankan musical shows to be held in the
UK and having witnessed the show we have
no doubt that the organizers did
achieved what they set out to achieve.
Speaking to the media
Palinda and his wife Asha said they
would like to thank everyone who came to
witness the event and promised to keep
producing these events on a regular
basis and serve the Sri Lankan music
loving community in the UK with
something that is genuine and enjoyable.
