The third
annual Children of Lanka Party in the
Park Cricket Sixes was held at the Mill
Hill Village Cricket Club on 20th June
2010. Despite an initial cold start to
the day over 150 people turned up to
support the event organised by
Children of Lanka (UK) charity to raise
funds to sustain their ongoing projects
in Sri Lanka. The tournament saw 16
teams enter the fray with 12 men’s teams
and 4 women’s teams battling it out to
win the coveted Children of Lanka (UK)
Charity cups. The Men’s tournament was
won by the Jolly boys and the ladies was
won by. Eagle Girls . The match
referee and adjudicator was Gihan Herath
a former Trinity Cricketer who is a
respected member of the Middlesex league
cricketing community.
Entertainment which included witty
commentaries was provided by DJ Dilan
while a bouncy castle provided hours of
endless fun for the kids while the
parents patronised the Hoppers, Kottu,
Lamprais and Short eats on offer. The
Chief Guest Andi Costain OBE commented
on the work done by the charity and
spoke briefly about her experiences with
the Children of Lanka charity when she
worked on a post tsunami project in Sri
Lanka. The event was sponsored by Mass

Children of Lanka (UK) charity was
established in 2000 and in order to
carry out its work in Sri Lanka Singithi
Sarana Charity was established. Working
to empower children through education
and remove them from the equation that
a lack of education equates to a
lifetime of poverty the charities
together carry out the majority of their
work in Kantale and its surrounding
villages as far as Somapura and
Seruwawila . The charity equip these
village schools with libraries, musical
instruments, sports equipment,
instrument boxes, stationery and other
needed items. The charity also provides
each O’level student with an instrument
box and a set of past question papers
for all subjects offered, in addition
the grade 5 scholarship children are
also provided with sets of past question
papers and additional text books. The
Charity supports 15 schools in Kantale
and its villages while providing
scholarships to 50 students from the
