The National
Victory day Celebrations of the 1st
anniversary after freeing the country
from terrorism was held at the Galle Face
Green on
the 18th of June 2010. |

The victory
celebrations presided by the President
Mahinda Rajapaksa with the
participation of the armed forces
commanders, Defence Secretary,
government ministers and other political
leaders. Artillery, tanks and
multi-barrel rocket launchers were
featured in the parade down Colombo's
main thoroughfare, Galle Green.
Thousands of troops, including disabled
soldiers in wheelchairs, joined
in.Warplanes and helicopters flew over
Galle Face while navy gunships sailed
along the coast. |

Mahinda Rajapaksa placed a wreath at the
War Heroes Memorial at the Parliamentary
grounds at Sri Jayawardhanapura, Kotte
on Friday (June 18) to pay tribute to
the members of the Armed Forces who
sacrificed their lives in defence of the
Motherland. Prime Minister D.M
Jayarathna ,Presidents Secretary
Mr.Lalith Weeratunga, Defence Secretary
Gotabaya Rajapaksa ,Commanders of the
Three Forces, IGP , Mrs.Padma Wattawa
Chirperson of Ranaviru Seva Authoruty,
were also present on this occasion. |
