 Queen of the Sinhala Silver Screen, Malani Fonseka, was felicitated at the Sri Lankan High commission in London
11th March 2010

 

Queen of the Sinhala Silver Screen, Malani Fonseka, was felicitated at the Sri Lankan High commission in London on the 11th March 2010.  With the support of  the High Commissioner, HE Justice Nihal jayasinghe the event was organised by the well known producer and Tele and Radio drama artist,  Lilani Perera.

Welcoming the invitees, Lilani said that she organised the event to show  our appreciation to Malani for bringing honour to Sri Lanka and her accomplishments. She mentioned in her speech that the Malini Fonseka has been included by CNN  as among twenty five of the all time Asia’s best actors and actresses. Also Lilani added that she, herself, was privileged to produce Malani’s first and second overseas directed teledrama series “Sarisara Lihini” in 2005 and “Suragana Doova” in 2007.

Malani Fonseka was nominated for the best actress award at the Asia Pacific Film Awards ceremony conducted for the third time by the Asia Pacific Cinema Academy, for her role as Sandhya Rani in the Sinhala film Akasa Kusum.

Elongated speech was given by the High Commissioner HE Justice Nihal Jayasinghe  and in his speech he highlighted some of the achievements Malani obtained during her  cinema career. He was followed by Solicitor Anura Hegoda, writer, teledrama and stage drama producer ,   Mr Douglas Wickramaratne, the President of the Sinhala Association UK and the well known business entrepreneur, Mr Mike Cooke. Malani Fonseka addressed the gathering and thanked everyone who attended the event and there was a rush to have photo shoot  with her and enjoyed the refreshments.
