A meeting
was organised by “Movements for
Democracy in Sri Lanka” at London Harrow
Vale Farm sport centre on 17 Jan 2010,
in support of General Sarath Fonseka’s
presidential election campaign.

majority of Sri Lankans live in United
Kingdom gathered to the meeting
representing different political parties
and organisations. Meeting was chaired
by Mr Ajantha Kangahaarachchi the son of
former university vice chancellor
Professor T.B.Kangahaarchchi.
About ten
speakers addressed the meeting, Mr
Jayadevan Sri Lankan Tamil community Mr.
Sampath Gunawansa from UK Srilankan
student association ,Mr Chinthaka de
Silva UK UNP media spokesman, UK UNP
supporting group Mr Harsha Kannangara UK

the country needs big change today.
Former UK
SLFP chairman addressing the gathering
was very emotional. Mentioning about the
killing of an old mother in Tangalle he
could not help with out crying “To day
no democracy in Sri Lanka. I have never
seen this type of election campaign ever
in my life. President Mahinda and his
family are destroying our beloved SLFP
party. He only cares about his own
family not the country nor our party. I
have been with SLFP as a member more
than 40 years and never asked not to
vote some one who represents our party.
But today in order to establish the
democracy in Sri Lanka I have to ask
from you to vote General Sarath Foneka.”
UK UNP media
spokesman Mr Chinthaka de silva and UK
UNP supporting group Harsha Kannangara
asked from the crowed to urge from their
families and friends in Sri Lanka to go
to the polling stations early as
possible and mark their vote front of
swan.
UK JVP
organiser Dharshana Hettiarachchi
addressing the gathering “President
Mahinda’s plan was to win this election
as a one horse race. Mistake he has done
was undermined the strength of JVP. He
never thought that UNP and JVP will
never work together. He thought these
two parties are like oil and water never
mix. But when our mother land needs
democracy, when our mother land is in
hand of a ruthless leader, when it needs
our help, we will work with anyone to
safeguard our mother land. We think our
mother land more than our political
differences and views. If president rig
this election we will continue our
struggle under one banner with all the
other parties and organisers who love
our mother land”
Also there

Lanka”in west London Hounslow on 23 Jan
