A public gathering in London to support the President Mahinda Rajapaksa  - 17th January 2010

A public gathering to support the President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s election campaign, organised by the British Sri Lankan Forum (BSLF) was held opposite the Sri Lanka High Commission, London on Sunday 17th January 2010. The public gathering was mainly focused on displaying the gratitude towards President Rajapaksa for giving the leadership to defeat 30 years of brutal terrorism in Sri Lanka.

A large crowd of patriotic Sri Lankans were gathered and it was quite energetic with slogans supporting Mahinda Rajapaksa, against international conspiracies, anti-National NGOs and also criticizing pro Tamil Tiger Terrorist elements being shouted by the crowd. This event was organised on very short notice and participation was from all walks of Sri Lankan Diaspora in the UK, was commendable in freezing cold, resulting in a huge success of the event.
On be half of the organizing committee, Janaka Alahapperuma said as the Commander of Chief, President Rajapaksa gave the strong and correct leadership and also remained unshaken amidst challenges that came from Western bullies on his way during the last phase of the war. He further said that everyone should wholeheartedly be grateful for ending the Terrorism in motherland and vote wisely to re elect him to finish the rest of the work towards the prosperity of the nation.

Mr Alahapperuma also thanked Niroshan Mohotty, Ajantha Hindurangala and Mahinda Punchihewa for taking the initiative to organised the event and Dr.M.B. Ranatunga, Kalum Silva, Aravinda Ranasinghe, Neth FM -Sri Lanka, Sesatha and Col3neg Original web sites for helping them to make the event a success.
Two letters were handed over to the Sri Lanka High Commission by representatives of BSLF to President Rajapaksa and the people of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, two incidents took place, where a fake text message circulated and also someone has phoned Police and informed the event was postponed. Those two attempts tried to disrupt the programme were in vain. Metropolitan Police provided adequate security and is conducting investigations to trace the phone call and the text message in the arrests of the culprits.

Spokesperson of the BSLF said that their organisation is a non political organisation. Due to the international conspiracies and some other forces are backing in the election to cripple the newly found peace in Sri Lanka and members of BSLF considered this as a threat to the national security and its people. Therefore BSLF decided to hold the public gathering for favoring President Rajapaksa, he further added.
