Channel-4 News in the UK broadcast an unauthenticated video clip, accusing Sri Lanka Army and the government of war crimes. This particular video clip, shown on Channel-4 news on 25th August 2009 at 7.00pm, created a huge controversy throughout the world. It was later shown on BBC, CNN and many other news channels as well as web sites and led to the damage of the reputation of Sri Lanka and our brave forces. It is also detrimental to the reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction process in Sri Lanka.

A demonstration against the Channel-4 Television Corporation organised by British Sri Lankan Forum (BSLF) was held on 5th September 2009 in front of London’s Channel Four television broadcasting station requesting Channel-4 to prove the authenticity of the video or make a public apology.

After the demonstration main organiser Mr Janaka Alhaperuma together with Mr Sri Lal Dias submitted a petition with over 4000 signatures to the British Prime Minister Mr Gordon Brown. Those signatures were collected through a online petition and large number of Sri Lankans showed their displeasure on Chenner4 with their own comments.
