The Childlanka organisation celebrated their Spring Ball at the Montague hall Hounslow on the 27th June 2009. The Spring Golden Ball took place to honour the deceased soldiers of our motherland Sri-Lanka and to raise sufficient funds to educate the beloved children they left behind.
The evening was highly successful with over 250 invitees. The event was opened by Mrs.Priya Siriwardne- The founding member and other trustees by lighting the Sri-lankan traditional oil lamp. To bless the event Pandith Venerable Wimalajothi observed the five precepts and emphasised the great merits of charitable work.
To follow live music was provided by Action performing pop tunes and the ever crowd pleasing baila. The entertainment became evermore traditional as two dancing groups from The GeeBees dancing school performed traditional kandyan style dance.
Various speeches were given by Mrs,Priya Siriwardne- Founder, Mahilal Kottegoda-General Secretary, Dr. Damitha Ratnasingha and Chandana Vithana. We were also privileged to have the presence of H.E Commissioner for SL in the UK Mr& Mrs. Nihal Jayasingha and Brigadier Nirimal Gunawardena who also gave speeches with particular emphasis that the duty lays with us people of Sri-Lanka  to look after the soldiers families who gave their lives for our motherland and the freedom we now enjoy, and to give best support to those who needed it right now.
Traditional Sri-Lankan food was provided buffet style to the delight of the crowd- "especially the cadju curry". A raffle was drawn. With joy and warmth in ones heart knowing that the money spent this evening was going to better the lives of our fellow Sri-Lankans we then danced the night away. All in all the Childlanka Spring Golden Ball was a hit!
