An International Forum
on Sri Lanka was held at the Oxford Union on 5th June
2009. The Theme was Post-Terrorism: Analysis of
Reconstruction & Democratisation of Sri Lanka's Conflict
Regions. This was organised by the Oxford Sri Lanka
Society and the Oxford Union.
The main focus was on reconstruction and democratisation
of previous conflict regions. The aim was to present a
diverse range of views on the matter by the different
stake-holders. Hon. (Dr.) Sarath Amunugama, Minister of
Public Administration and Home Affairs was the chief
guest and the other key speakers were Hon. Nirj Deva
(Member of the European Parliament) & Prof. Rajiva
Wijesinha, Secretary-General of
the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP)
The Oxford Union Society, commonly referred to simply as
the Oxford Union, is a debating society in the city of
Oxford, UK. Founded in 1823, it is Britain's second
oldest University Union, and has gained a worldwide
reputation proving a valuable training ground for many
future politicians from Britain and other countries. The
Oxford Union has a long history of hosting international
figures and previous guests have included the Dalai
Lama, Winston Churchill, Mother Teresa, former US
Presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Ronald
Reagan. |
