Sri Lankan Society in High Wycombe celebrated the Vesak
festival on the 30th May with observance of eight
precepts (ata-sil), a Vesak lantern display, a Bhakthi
Gee session and a Dansela. Venerable
monks from the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara presided over
the day's proceedings.
A large number of parents and children participated in
the observance of ata-sil. It was heartening to see
children as young as three years observing sil, albeit
for a shorter period. Venerable Nahalle Rahula Thero,
the Chief Incumbent of the Letchworth Buddhist Vihara
then conducted a Kavi Bana session on Buddha's life,
followed by a Maithree Bhaavana session conducted by
Venerable Maha Brithanyaye Kashyapa Thero and an
Anushashana by Venerable Nalluruwe Sangarathana Thero.
The sil pavaranaya followed by a Dansela for all,
prepared by the participants themselves.
Venerable monks appreciated the efforts of the children
in making the Vesak lanterns and expressed their
appreciation and wonder at seeing such commitment from
the young and the adults alike. The Bhakthi Gee session
was well received by all those who were present and the
venerable monks invited those who performed to perform
at the temple during the upcoming Poson festival.
Sri Lankan Society in High Wycombe wishes to take this
opportunity to thank all those who participated and
contributed in many ways to the success of the event.
