Members of Dhamma
Nikethanaya Buddhist Centre in Letchworth Garden City
attended to a special day programme on Saturday 16th May
2009, celebrating 2553rd Vesak Buddha Jayanthi.
Buddhists across the globe commemorate mainly the three
events of the life of the Buddha, namely his Birth,
Enlightenment and Passing away into Parinibbana.
Marking the 2553 Buddha Jayanthi, Dhamma Nikethanaya
Buddhist Centre organised a day-programme with series of
devotional offerings (amisa pooja) and practice of
teaching out of honour (patipatti pooja) under the
guidance of Ven Akurala Samitha Thero, the head of the
centre.
The programme started by observing the Eight Precepts.
It was followed by Meditation sessions, Dhamma talks,
discussions, offerings to Buddha and Sangha (monks),
Vesak Dansela (free food sharing stall), Vesak Light
Festival, Bhakthi Gee (devotional songs in homage to
Buddha), pooja and chanting for peace, happiness and
good health and sharing of merits.
Organising committee wish to extend their humble
gratitude for everyone helped and attended to make this
event a success. May all beings be well and happy. |
