Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebrations in Coventry - 26th April 2009

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebrations were held in Coventry for the fourth consecutive year on 26^th March 2009 at the St Elizabeth Church Parish Hall, Coventry.  Among the distinguished invitees were Venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Maha Thera, Chief Monk Jethavana Buddhist Vihara Birmingham, Resident Monk Venerable Sumedha Thera, Reverend Dr Prem Jayalath Fernando Chaplain of Warwick University, Dr M Jayaratnam and Mr. Hameen Jawfer.

This function was organized by the President Mr. Oliver Madurapperuma HOF and Members of the Association of UK Sri Lankan Community Coventry. Among the participants were Sri Lankan’s from Birmingham and Leicester and also non Sri Lankan community members. The Celebrations included a traditional New Year Feast with milk rice and Sinhala and Tamil sweets provided by the committee members for all who were present, Lighting of the traditional Oil lamp, and many games for young and old.
