Anti-LTTE Protest in London, organised by the Sri Lankans Against Terrorism - 14th February 2009

A mass demonstration organised by the Sri Lankans Against Terrorism (SLAT) in UK was held on the 14 of February 2009 opposite the British Prime Ministers residence No.10 Downing Street, London. The protest was mainly focused on the LTTE’s acts of human rights violations and the cowardly use of the human shield. The gathering was attended by over 4000 peace lovers, according to metropolitan police sources and was quite energetic with Anti-LTTE slogans being shouted by the patriotic Sri Lankans. A petition which had several thousands of signatures, was handed over to Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s office by representatives of SLAT.
Furthermore, two incidents took place, where LTTE supporters tried to disrupt the programme when one tried to set him self on fire. Quick actions by the Metropolitan Police resulted in the arrests of the culprits.
