  Sri Lankan born Vipula Athukorale scooped 2 gold medals
at the world-renowned Hotelympia Salon Culinary 2010 competition at ExCel, London.

Sri Lankan born Vipula Athukorale scooped three medals – 2 gold and 1 silver – for his butter carvings at the world-renowned Hotelympia Salon Culinary 2010 competition at ExCel, London. Vipula’s hand-crafted works in fat comprised a vintage Rolls-Royce with two couples (gold), a creation of the Pied Piper (gold) and another carving of Pinocchio (silver).

The competition was held from 28th February to 4th March and provided a platform for artists/decorators from all over the world to showcase their talents. A former student of Ananda College Colombo, Vipula showed a talent for art from a young age. Besides his achievements in this year’s competition in London, he has won medals at the Bahrain Salon Culinary in 1990 and 1992 and First Mediterranean Culinary Challenge Gastrognosia ’97 in Cyprus. Vipula’s outstanding achievements have been recognised by the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Roger Blackmore, who felicitated the artist and his family on 22nd of March.

Vipula has 28 years of work experience in six different countries, which includes Iraq, Bahrain, Greece, Cyprus, England and his own motherland. He does fruit, vegetable, butter, polystyrene, pastillage carvings and also mural paintings. He is a resident of Leicester, UK for the past six years.
